Local Fresh-Dates Festival Concludes at Souq Waqif

Qatar’s Local Fresh-Dates Festival at Souq Waqif in Doha concludes on Monday, August 10. The festival brought families and visitors together with Qatari farmers in the market’s eastern square.

During its first three days, about 19,500 visitors came to the festival. Farmers sold more than 41 tonnes of local fresh dates, which are dates picked before they become dry.

Visitors learned about different varieties of fresh dates and bought them directly from the farmers. Khalas fresh dates were among the best-selling varieties, followed by Shishi and Khenaizi dates. Direct sales allowed visitors to meet the food producers who grow the fruit.

More than 100 Qatari farms took part in the festival, and other summer fruits were also displayed. The festival was not only a place to shop; it also gave families a chance to taste local products and learn more about farming in Qatar.
