فِي لِوَاءِ دَيْرِ عَلَّا، فِي مُحافَظَةِ الْبَلْقَاءِ بِالْأُرْدُنِّ، تَعِيشُ عَشِيرَةُ الْغَرَاغِيرِ قِصَّةً إِنْسَانِيَّةً مُلْهِمَةً. فَنَحْوُ مِائَةِ شَخْصٍ مِنْ أَبْنَائِهَا لَدَيْهِمْ فُقْدَانُ بَصَرٍ أَوْ ضَعْفٌ شَدِيدٌ فِي الْبَصَرِ، بِسَبَبِ حَالَةٍ وَرَاثِيَّةٍ.
وَلٰكِنَّ كَثِيرًا مِنْ أَبْنَاءِ الْعَشِيرَةِ يَدْرُسُونَ وَيَعْمَلُونَ وَيَعْتَمِدُونَ عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ. فِيهِمْ مُعَلِّمُونَ وَأَئِمَّةٌ وَمُوَظَّفُونَ وَطُلَّابٌ. وَيَعْمَلُ بَعْضُهُمْ أَيْضًا فِي الْخِيَاطَةِ وَإِصْلَاحِ الْمِيَاهِ وَالْكَهْرَبَاءِ وَأَجْهِزَةِ الصَّوْتِ.
وَعَادَ فَادِي الْغَرَاغِيرُ إِلَى الدِّرَاسَةِ بَعْدَ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ثَلَاثِينَ عَامًا، وَحَصَلَ عَلَى شَهَادَةِ الثَّانَوِيَّةِ الْعَامَّةِ. أَمَّا عُمَرُ الْغَرَاغِيرُ، فَيَدْرُسُ الْإِرْشَادَ النَّفْسِيَّ، وَيَهْتَمُّ بِالْبَرْمَجَةِ وَمُونْتَاجِ الْفِيدْيُو، وَيُسَاعِدُ شَبَابًا آخَرِينَ فِي بَعْضِ الْأَعْمَالِ التِّقْنِيَّةِ.

Jordanian Clan Meets Visual Impairment with Education and Work
In the Deir Alla district of Balqa Governorate in Jordan, the Gharaghir clan has an inspiring human story. About one hundred of its members have blindness or severe visual impairment because of a hereditary condition.
However, many members of the clan study, work, and rely on themselves. They include teachers, imams, employees, and students. Some also work in sewing, water and electrical repairs, and sound equipment.
Fadi Al-Gharaghir returned to education after more than thirty years and earned his secondary-school certificate. Omar Al-Gharaghir studies psychological counselling, is interested in programming and video editing, and helps other young people with some technical work.
Abdul Karim Al-Gharaghir plays football on a game console by relying on his hearing and the commentator’s voice. These stories show the importance of family support, education, and work opportunities for people with visual impairments.
