Ukraine Says It Will Resume Strikes on Russian Oil Refineries
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Thursday, October 15, 2026, that his country would resume strikes on Russian oil refineries. The announcement came after a short pause in the strikes.
That morning, Ukrainian drones attacked a refinery in Russia’s Ryazan region, southeast of Moscow. Russian authorities and a Ukrainian official said the attack started a fire at the refinery.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine had paused strikes on refineries after a ceasefire announcement covering attacks by both sides on energy facilities. He added that Russian attacks on his country continued during the pause.
Moscow and Kyiv have not confirmed that they negotiated the ceasefire. Kyiv says it targets Russian oil facilities to reduce the money Moscow receives. That same week, Ukraine and the United States continued to disagree over the ceasefire and Washington’s support for Kyiv.
